The Festival relies on two stages outdoors. Placed in the Wine-cellar, destined to the productions of bigest format, it can hold up to approximately 500 spectators and the recluse San Pedro’s Claustro, destined to works of small format or that for their characteristics need the nearby presence of the spectator.

Olite’s Classical Theatre Festival is a program managed directly by the Department of Culture and Tourism - institution Prince of Viana of the Navarre’s Government with the sponsorship of Olite’s Town hall and Highways of Navarre. Also the State Society of Cultural Commemorations, Olite’s Royal palace and the Regulatory Council of the Denomination of Origin Came from Navarre collaborate.

This edition tries to give a qualitative jump opening new lines of programming, reflection and production, and some milestones that expand the definition of the concept of “festival”. This year the festival puts the accent in the producers. We are going to enjoy big approaches of stage management, but in addition we are going to listen to the directors speaking on their works, analyzing the prominent figures with those who make the spectacles, and thinking about the scenic language.

Heineken Jazzaldia will receive in addition in the Kursaal Brad Mehldau’s acoustic concert; Carla Bley with her Big Band, to Joe Lovato, to the trumpet player Dave Douglas and the concert of Animal Collective. Also there will be raised the Brazilian excellent musician, Joao Golberto, and the historical James Taylor. In the free concerts of the beach of the Zurriola the public will be able to enjoy Vetusta Morla, Russian Red, Eva Cortés and the kings of the new soul, Black Joe Lewis and The Honeydreamers.

Between July 4th and 12th eight very intense days will be dedicated to the juggling and other disciplines of the circus, in which it will not have fitted for the tedium. Since it could not be otherwise, they have programmed for the occasion a wide range of activities: workshops, concerts, infantile activities, improvisations, tilts of hockey in monocycle, championships of volley mace and an endless number of surprises.

Vitoria will turn this way into the European capital of the juggling, for delight of small and adults. Several have been the reasons that have motivated the election of the city as venue of the festival: his unsurpassable geographical location (easy access) and his wide offer of facilities and equipments.

Artists like  Loco Brusca, Antonio Álvarez or the schools of circus Carampa and Rogelio Rivel are only some of the names that will show their skills in this event that promises to be so spectacular as multitudinous. The band of music Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, which fuses the jazz and the ska, will act on the 11th.

An enclosure of more than 86.000 square meters, located in Mendizabala, will be the core of the meeting. There three zones will be enabled of encamped, a great surface that will receive the diverse tents and a zone outdoors where to enjoy the most surprising numbers (malabares of fire, air spectacles …). Other stages chosen to shelter the foreseen activities are the Palace Europe, Mendizorroza’s pavilion, the Campus of Alava and the squares Nueva and Fueros.

As every year international and local  jazz celebrities will be showing their names on the current edition. The diferent jazz festivals of  Euskadi have adapted theirselves to the state of economic crisis reducing the days of the festival or removing some of the sections. In spite of it they have managed “to support or even to improve” the quality of previous editions, according to the organizers.

Vitoria-Gasteiz Jazz Festival

Vitoria-Gasteiz Jazz Festival , from july 12 till 18, has decided to take the inaugural act to the Mendizorroza’s Polysport instead of to Armentia, because the staging there is very expensive.

Likewise, the habitual seminar has been replaced with a few magisterial classes of three days at the expense of the best guitarist of jazz of the moment, Pat Metheny, who on Wednesday the 15th of July will act together with Charli Hden and diverse Spanish musicians, among them Kepa Junkera.

The persons in charge of the festival have met in addition bound to realize a last-minute change in the programming of Friday, the 17th of July immediately after singer Randy Crawford and the pianist Joe Sample had been hospitalized. This way, the concert that was foreseen on the occasion of 50 Billie Holiday’s anniversary will be carried out by Madeleine Peyroux’s unmistakable voice as well as the singer of jazz Didi Bridgewater, which precisely is recording a disc dedicated entirely to Billie Holiday. ” In this concert it will be the first time that Didi will sing the reportorio entirely in a festival. This year, the festival recovers the gospel with the guitarist John Scofield and his band of New Orleans and with the most important group of Gospel of the world, The Blind Boys of Alabama. The public will have opportunity as well to listen in the same stage the electrical bass of Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller and Victor Wooten, and to enjoy Wynton Marsalis’s performances at the head of the Jazz at Lincoln Centre Orchestra with Chano Domínguez and Paco de Lucía, playing the ” Vitoria Suite “, composed in honoring to Vitoria. There will be able to listen to Jymmy Cobb, the last alive component of the disc of Jazz more sold of the history, Kind of Blue, among other artists.

44 Heineken Jazzaldia

For their part, the persons in charge of 44 Heineken Jazzaldia have reduced in one day the festival for what it will develop from July 22 to July 26. The schedule of this edition relies on four mythical names of the jazz: the legends of the keyboard Hank Jones, Abdullah Ibrahim and Randy Weston, and the drummer Roy Haynes, who already acted in the of Guipuzcoa capital in 1983.

This year the Plaza of the Trinidad recovers after one year missed because of the works to renovate it. On this stage Randy Weston, Joe Lovano, Roy Hayenes, Hope Spaldin, Periwig Sambeat, Pitingo, Mélissa Laveaux and Jamie Cullum will act in this edition.

Getxo’s Internacional Festival

The Basque jazz circuit is completed by the  XXXIII Getxo’s International Festival, which will take place from July 1 to July 5. This year the festival will bring together artists and groups of great stature as Paquito DïRivera, Spyro Gyra, Michael Camimo, Imar Sossa and the vocalist Diane Schuur. They will not also be absent the contest of groups and the section The Third Millenium, the night jam sessions and the marching band that will cross the different streets of the Biscayan locality. The person in charge, Iñaki Saitua, has admitted that to being the smallest festival of the three they have noticed less the crisis and have not had to remove or to short the schedule.

Three festivals are fitted inside the campaign Jazzeuskadi, directed in turn to promote the tourist and cultural offer of the Basque Autonomic region. For it, there offer packages that include stays in hotels, as well as gastronomic offer and tickets to visit the Guggenheim Museum .

Between the 11th and 14th of June, the surf will be the principal protagonist of the projections of movies, concerts and other events organized concerning this initiative.

The festival turns principally concerning the contest of short films, which will be projected during the festival in the Principal Theatre. On the 12th and 13th of June, several concerts will be celebrated in Gazteszena under the initiatory SurFilm Festibaila. On Friday they will operate Los Carnívoros, Fortune Tellers and Dj Zethors, whereas Saturday will be the day of Le Pianic, Cherry Boopers y Dj Chelis.

An exhibition and several acts more complete the lineup of this edition of the SurFilm Festibal.

The Festival is one of the most important musical annual events in  San Sebastian and that more public attracts. It joins interesting artists not only for the specializing public but the Festival has interest for all kinds of public adding to the schedule knowed names of the musical current scene.

This edition relies on Jamie Cullum’s participation as main hedline star of the program, which last work ” Great Torino ” for the sound track of this movie was nominated to the ” Golden Globe Awards “.

Likewise Pitingo’s name stands out as the very latest national current artist  who fuses flamenco and soul which participation in the sound track of  ” Cuéntame ” has had an evident media repercussion. As a group we can emphasize a pop rock band of Madrid  called Vetusta Morla is carving out a place among the public of this genre.

Every year, at the end of May, San Sebastian is the scene chosen by the Spanish and Latin-American creativity to expose the best of this sector.

In the year 1986 the first edition of the festival took place in the city of Marbella, moving the celebration on the year following to the city of San Sebastian, which since then has turned in the official venue of the festival.El Sol is a festival of international scope; until the year 2002 the festival was named ” Advertising Festival of San Sebastian “, was limiting its participation to companies located in Spain. From the year 2003, the festival opens its doors to all the Spanish-speaking countries and Portuguese changing its denomination into The Sun  The Latin-American Festival of the Advertising Communication.

And all this with a great aim, which is not other one that positioning the festival as the benchmark of the Latin advertising.

It is a multimedia Festival, El Sol started its operations being a festival advertising that only was sheltering the section of television. Now following the fast evolution of the market different sections have been joining with the time to contest, giving content to all the expressions of the commercial communication and the advertising in all the areas.

In the last edition that took place last 29th, May 30 and 31, 2008, El Sol  relied on a participation closely of 3800 inscribed pieces proceeding from 18 countries and an assistance of 2400 persons. Undoubtedly San Sebastian during the days of celebration of the festival turns into an annual meeting of all the professionals of the communication.

In the current edition that will begin next May 28 will rely on debates, projections, conferences, the awards ceremony on Saturday the 30th and edition will be closed with the projection of the 24th edition winners.

Azkena Rock will return to turn Vitoria into city of Rock &  Roll will dye of black on the 14th, 15th and 16th, commanded by Black Crowes, tomorrow, and Alice Cooper, on Saturday.

The Azkena Rock Festival (often abridged as ARF) is a festival of rock that is celebrated in Vitoria (Alava), organized by the promoter of concerts Last Tour International.

With several editions in its credit it has turned into one of the most important festivals of Spain thanks to its interest to bring bands of rock removed from the public mainstream but known to level underground, together with heads of cartel very known, “even “legendary”. There exists the possibility of being present at all the programmed concerts, since two stages exist and the concerts do not overlap in the time.

In the edition of 2006 more than 44.000 tickets were sold, the major success in the history of the fetival thanks to Pearl Jam’s presence. Some of the bands that have participated have been Iggy and The Stooges, Wilco, Social Distortion, Tool, Queens of the Stone Age, Ray Davies, Bad Religion, Sex Pistols, Deep Purple or Fun Lovin Criminals.
